About Pleasant View Fire Department

The Pleasant View Fire Department is located in southwest Colorado in the shadow of the Mesa Verde National Park and the Ute Mountain. At an average elevation of 6900 ft we cover an area of approximately 384 square miles.  The area consists of pinion and juniper covered canyons, dry and irrigated farm land, many homes, outbuildings and barns.

The area we cover is made up of the three communities of Pleasant View, Yellow Jacket and Cahone.  Operating under Pleasant View Fire Protection District, we provide fire protection, emergency medical services, hazmat response and rescue for our three communities, the people living in the area, visitors and travelers on Highway 491.

Currently our department has nineteen members and we meet every second and fourth Tuesdays for training. Our members have a total of 946 hours of training for the year of 2020.
We train on every aspect of emergency services that we will respond to.

Training

Fire training covers many aspects including structure and wildland fires. Also we prepare by training for extrication and highway safety for vehicle accidents.

Medical Training

We currently have seven certified EMTs and all of our members have taken a first responder and CPR course. About seventy five percent of our calls concern medical emergencies

Wildland Fire

The majority of our summer calls involve wildland/forest fires. We train on safely controlling these fires as well as protecting structures during wildland fire events. At times we assist surrounding districts with larger wildland fires when called for.

Stations and equipment

We are incredibly proud of the equipment that we have to help protect our community. Our members are constantly training with modern, state-of-art firetrucks and emergency response vehicles. These vehicles and equipment allow us to successfully respond to any vehicle accident, structure and wildland/forest fires and possible hazardous material incidents. We owe this ability to our tax income, grants and generous donations.
